Russian State Social University is one of the key chess courts in Russia. In recent years, the university has become a place where regional, all-Russian and international competitions are held regularly. Only in 2017 more than 30 sports competitions took place, and the new 2018 opens with the one of the most significant events - the Cup of the Russian State Social University Moscow Open-2018.

Moscow Open-2018 is one of the largest world chess festivals, in which men and women, war veterans, students, children, people with disabilities can participate. In 2018 it is held for the 14th time. Anyone can take part in one of the eight separate tournaments and compete for the Cup prize fund. During the festival the FIDE workshops for judges, workshop for trainers, a seminar "Chess in school" for school teachers and International Scientific Conference "Chess in the education system" will be held. Chess fans will have an opportunity not only to gain new knowledge, but also to gain invaluable experience in competitions with stronger chess players. Participation in tournaments is an excellent test for cleverness and a way to show the uniqueness of participants’ logical thinking.

The RSSU has become the first higher educational institution in Russia, which actively participated in the development of chess among young people. In 2016, the University, the Russian Chess Federation and the Russian Student Sports Union signed an agreement on the establishment of the National Student Chess League (#NSCC), headed by the Rector of the RSSU - Natalia Pochinok. The NSCL will now develop chess sport among the Russian student community.

The university is famous for its graduates. Among them there are the best sportsmen of the world, international grandmasters, and members of the Russian national chess team - multiple champions of the Moscow student games. For example, Sergei Karyakin, Valentina Gunina, Jan Nepomnyashchiy, Ernesto Inarkiev, Nikolai Chadayev, Mongontuul Batuyag, Alina Kashlinskaya, Vladimir Belous, Irina Vasilevich and others.

The RSSU Chess Cup Moscow Open is important not only for tournament participants, but also for chess teachers and highly qualified specialists in the sports field. This is a great opportunity for sharing experience in the field of chess pedagogy. Due to dynamically developing chess activity, the RSSU is a key participant of the chess development in the country.
